Release notes
BranchShell updates itself: open Preferences, then Updates, to check for the latest version.
New
- Settings > Devices moves your vaults: export them to an encrypted .bsvault file under a passphrase and import it on another computer (or drop it on the window), or send them to a phone as a stream of QR codes sealed under a one-time code. Keys and passwords go only if you choose.
- A picture pasted into an SSH tab lands on the server: Cmd+V puts a copy in ~/.cache/branchshell/pasted over the session's SFTP and types its path, so tools on the server such as Claude Code can open it.
- Copy works under programs that take the mouse, such as tmux, Neovim and Claude Code: their own copy reaches the clipboard, and holding Shift selects text natively.
- The query console's autocomplete follows table aliases: after FROM users u, typing u. offers the columns of users.
Improved
- Scrolling the terminal redraws at once and moves smoothly, where it moved in jumps.
- Typing, pasting or sending a key while scrolled back returns the terminal to the prompt.
- The snippet and history autocomplete opens above the prompt when the prompt sits near the bottom of the terminal.
- A found update downloads itself, ready to install on the next restart.
Fixed
- BranchShell now locks once the trial is over and no licence stands: every window shows the licence page, and sessions, forwards and database connections close until a licence is entered. Requests from BranchBay wait until the licence is known.
- Restart to update did nothing on Windows; it now installs the update and relaunches.
New
- The database tree works the way a desktop database tool's does: a click selects a table, Shift and Cmd (Ctrl on Windows and Linux) extend the selection, a double click opens it, and the arrows, Page Up and Page Down, Home, End, Return and Delete walk and act on it, with Left and Right folding a table closed or open.
- Tables, views and the server's users sit in folders under the database, folded at first, and a sessions row opens a console on the server's open sessions.
- Right-click menus over the database, the folders, a selection of tables, a column or a user: New (a query console, table, view, user, role, column, index, unique key or trigger), Refresh, Modify, Copy and Drop, which shows the statements it will run and asks first, with IF EXISTS if you want it.
- New > Table opens the Modify table dialog in Create mode, with a primary key box per column and the CREATE TABLE in the preview.
- An Import/Export menu beside Full text search: a CSV file into a table, previewed as you type the path; the DDL of the selected or every table to a file; and mysqldump or pg_dump and mysql or psql, run in a new local terminal tab.
- Every grid column has a filter, as in a spreadsheet: the page's values with their counts and a tick each, a search box over them, and the arrows, Return and Escape in the box.
- The pager's range opens a page-size menu: 10 to 1,000 rows, All, a custom number, and Set as default for every table opened afterwards.
- Columns can be hidden from their menu, one or all the others, and shown again from the Structure panel, where each column has an eye and a Show all row.
Improved
- The database tab's menu rows light up in blue, and the tree and the Structure panel have their own hover and selection shades.
- The macOS disk image opens in a designed window, with BranchShell and Applications side by side.
Fixed
- The result grid no longer slides sideways when the wheel scrolls down; Shift and the wheel scroll sideways.
- Close tab over the vault with sessions open did nothing; it now asks, then ends the sessions and closes the window.
New
- The first release of BranchShell, the SSH client that is BranchBay's terminal, for macOS, Windows and Linux.
- An encrypted vault on your computer for hosts, keys, identities, snippets, port forwarding rules and database connections, with several vaults side by side and an idle lock.
- Hosts in groups with tags, jump chains, HTTP and SOCKS proxies, per-host terminal themes, a snippet to run on connect, and import from ~/.ssh/config or from AWS, DigitalOcean, Azure and Hetzner Cloud.
- Ed25519, ECDSA and RSA keys generated or imported, FIDO2 security keys, Touch ID, certificates and identities, with agent forwarding per host.
- Local, remote and dynamic port forwarding rules that start with a host, from the palette, the Activity bar or the BranchBay tray.
- A GPU-drawn terminal with mosh, serial ports, session logs, split workspaces of up to four panes, tear-off windows and broadcast input.
- Snippets sorted into categories by Laya, a classifier that runs on your computer, and an autocomplete popup that offers snippets and history as you type.
- SFTP with a local and a remote pane, sudo-elevated paths, and Amazon S3 and Cloudflare R2 buckets in the same tab.
- Database connections for MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, SQL Server, ClickHouse, Redshift, Turso, Redis, MongoDB, InfluxDB, DynamoDB and CloudWatch, any of them through an SSH host from the vault, with a table grid, a query console, Modify table, full-text search and CSV export.
- A link to BranchBay: pair once, then Cmd+S in the tray lists every host, forward and database, Cmd+Alt+A narrows it to what is running and Cmd+T opens the highlighted repository in a BranchShell shell.
